An accessible bathroom is designed to enable people of all ages and with different physical requirements to use it safely, comfortably and as independently as possible.

The most important features include a floor-level shower, non-slip floor coverings, sufficient movement areas, ergonomically placed fittings and grab and support handles. Easy-to-reach storage surfaces and a well-conceived layout of the sanitary facilities also contribute to convenient use.

With KEUCO care products, these requirements can be implemented both functionally and aesthetically. This creates bathrooms that combine safety, comfort and high-quality design.

To the care products

A bathroom is deemed to be accessible if it can be used without assistance from others and without particular difficulty. The requirements for this are defined in Germany in DIN 18040-2. These include, among other things, sufficiently large movement areas, a shower that is level with the floor, easily accessible controls and - depending on use - grab and support handles.

For wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, larger movement areas of at least 150 × 150 cm also apply. With KEUCO’s well-thought-out care solutions, accessible bathrooms can be designed to meet standards, offering comfort and a high level of design quality.

To the care products

An accessible bathroom is much more than a solution for the elderly or a recognised disability. It is suitable for families with children, people with physical disabilities, people after surgery or injury, and for those who want to plan their home for comfort and the future in the long term.

Accessibility increases safety in everyday life, reduces the risk of trips and accidents and facilitates independent use of the bathroom. KEUCO care products help to harmoniously combine functionality and modern design.

To the care products

An accessible bathroom offers more safety, comfort and quality of life, more independence and future security. Floor-level showers, non-slip surfaces and ergonomically placed grab and support handles facilitate daily use and help prevent falls.

A barrier-free bathroom is designed for different life stages and can help keep the apartment comfortably accessible even when older or with temporary restrictions. It increases living comfort for all generations. In addition, an accessible bathroom can increase the value of a property. With KEUCO’s design solutions, there is no need to compromise on aesthetics or functionality.

The equipment of a barrier-free bathroom should ideally include a floor-level shower, non-slip floor coverings, easily accessible fittings, sufficient movement areas as well as grab and support handles, height-adjustable hand showers in the relevant areas and easily accessible shelves. Depending on individual requirements, shower seats, washbasins or drop-down support rails on the toilet can also be useful.

With the PLAN and AXESS series, KEUCO offers a wide range of solutions for a wide range of applications. The products combine high functionality, durable quality and sophisticated design and blend harmoniously into modern bathroom concepts.

To the care products

The terms “accessible” and “low-access” are often equated, but differ significantly. In Germany, an accessible bathroom meets the requirements of DIN 18040-2. This includes, among other things, threshold-free access, sufficiently large movement areas, a shower on the same level as the floor and - depending on use - grab and support handles. The aim is to use the bathroom as independently and safely as possible.

On the other hand, the concept of low-accessibility is not standardised. It describes bathrooms that offer individual measures to improve comfort and safety, such as a floor-level shower or anti-slip flooring, but do not meet all accessibility requirements. Typical measures include replacing the bathtub with showers close to or level with the floor, anti-slip floor coverings, retrofitted grab bars.

Accessible or low-access: KEUCO offers a wide range of care solutions that promote comfort, safety and independence while also integrating harmoniously into modern bathroom architecture.

Grab bars increase safety wherever movements require special stability. Typical areas of use are showering, bathing and the area next to the toilet, making it easier to get up, sit down and transfer and helping to significantly reduce the risk of falls.

Correct positioning and proper assembly are decisive for their function. DIN 18040-2 provides specific recommendations for the positioning of grab bars. For example, horizontal grab bars in the shower area should be mounted at a height of 85 cm and at least 90 cm long to provide a secure grip throughout the movement.

KEUCO’s care solutions combine safety and design in the best possible way.

To the care products

Yes, a bathroom can also be upgraded to be barrier-free or accessible. Individual measures are often sufficient to significantly improve comfort and safety. These include, for example, a floor-level shower, grab and support handles, a shower seat or an under-counter washbasin.

Which measures make sense depends on the spatial conditions and individual needs. KEUCO care products are suitable for both comprehensive bathroom renovations and targeted retrofits and can be harmoniously integrated into existing bathroom concepts.

To the care products

In Germany, the DIN 18040 series of standards defines the basic requirements for accessible construction. It distinguishes between different areas of application: While DIN 18040-1 describes the requirements for publicly accessible buildings (e.g. authorities, medical practices or educational institutions), DIN 18040-2 refers to accessible apartments and residential buildings and contains the requirements relevant for private bathrooms.

It defines requirements for movement areas, door widths, reach heights and the design of showers, washbasins and toilets. The aim of the standard is to enable independent and safe use of the bathroom for people with different physical requirements. Architects, specialist planners and craft companies are guided by these specifications when planning. The development of KEUCO care products also takes into account the requirements of DIN 18040.

DIN 18040 forms the basis for Germany. In other countries, different standards and requirements apply, which must be taken into account when planning accessible bathrooms.

An accessible bathroom meets (in Germany) the basic requirements of DIN 18040 and enables comfortable use for people with different physical requirements. A wheelchair-friendly bathroom goes beyond this and meets additional requirements.

This includes larger movement areas of at least 150 × 150 cm, a washbasin that can be driven under, more space next to the toilet and a correspondingly adapted layout of the sanitary facilities. KEUCO offers care products and railing systems that are suitable for both barrier-free and wheelchair-accessible bathrooms.

To the care products

Grab bars specially designed for use in wet areas can be inserted into the shower. They are made of high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials and offer reliable hold even in the event of moisture. Depending on the bathroom planning, straight grab bars, angled grab bars or railing systems are inserted.

The PLAN and AXESS series from KEUCO offer a wide range of solutions for different requirements. Available in high-quality finishes such as chrome or matt black, they combine safety, durability and modern design and blend harmoniously into contemporary bathrooms. KEUCO grab bars can hold up to 115 kg.

To the grab bars

Grab bars perform a safety-relevant function and should therefore be installed professionally. Wall-mounted construction, suitable fastening materials and correct positioning according to the subsequent use are crucial. All KEUCO grab and support handles are permanently screwed to the wall. Professional installation ensures a high level of stability and ensures that the products fulfil their function in the long term and reliably.

To the grab bars

In principle, grab bars can also be mounted on drywalls, provided that the wall has been prepared or reinforced accordingly. The decisive factor is that the wall-mounted structure can reliably absorb the loads that occur. For this reason, it should be taken into account during bathroom planning whether grab or support handles are to be provided later. A specialist company can assess which mounting solution is suitable for the respective Wall-mounting. KEUCO care products can be securely and permanently fastened with proper assembly.

To the grab bars

Grab bars in bathrooms must withstand continuous high loads, humidity and temperature fluctuations. This is why only high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials such as brass are used. In addition to their stability, hygiene, durability and an easy-care surface also play an important role. KEUCO care products are made from high-quality materials and combine the highest quality standards with timeless design.

To the grab bars

Grab bars in the bathroom should be cleaned regularly to maintain their function and high-quality appearance. All you need for daily care is a soft cloth, warm water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent. This gently removes limescale, soap residue and dirt without damaging the surface. Aggressive cleaners, scouring agents or abrasive sponges should be avoided as they can permanently damage high-quality surfaces. With the right care, KEUCO care products remain hygienic, durable and visually appealing.

Mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents and soft cloths are suitable for cleaning high-quality bathroom accessories. Cleaning agents containing chlorine, acids, solvents or abrasive components should be avoided as they can permanently damage surfaces. Regular, gentle cleaning is particularly recommended for refined surfaces to maintain shine and material quality over the long term.

The high-quality surfaces of KEUCO Care products are designed for daily use in the bathroom and can be kept in perfect condition over the long term with the right care.

To the care products

It is best to remove limescale deposits regularly before they build up. Use a soft cloth and a mild bathroom cleaner. After cleaning, the surfaces should be rinsed with clean water and then wiped dry. This results in fewer limescale and water stains. With regular care, the high-quality surfaces of KEUCO Care products retain their quality and attractive appearance over the long term.

Grab and support handles must be able to withstand high loads on a continuous basis in everyday life. High-quality materials, precise workmanship and professional assembly are therefore crucial for their service life. KEUCO care products are developed for long-term use and meet high quality and safety requirements. With proper use and regular care, they retain their stability, function and high-quality appearance for many years.

Suitable spare parts are available for many KEUCO products. This means that individual components can be replaced if necessary without having to replace the entire product. Information on available spare parts can be obtained from specialist retailers, KEUCO customer service or the KEUCO spare parts shop.

Yes, modern accessible bathrooms with KEUCO products combine safety, comfort and sophisticated design. The Care series from KEUCO show how functional solutions can be combined with modern design. For example, the AXESS series was created in collaboration with the renowned design agency Studio F. A. Porsche.

Good planning not only takes into account current needs, but also creates long-term comfort for all phases of life. Sufficient areas for movement, a shower level with the floor, ergonomically arranged sanitary facilities and well-placed grab and support handles form the basis of an accessible bathroom. Equally important are non-slip floor coverings, easily accessible fittings and sufficient storage space. KEUCO care products create bathrooms that combine functionality, safety and timeless design.

In recent years, grab bars have evolved from purely functional aids to high-quality design elements. Modern designs, sleek shapes and elegant surfaces ensure that they blend harmoniously into the bathroom architecture. Instead of standing out, they complement the overall look of the bathroom and combine safety with aesthetics.

The PLAN and AXESS series from KEUCO show that accessible equipment can meet the highest design requirements. When folded up, the profiles of the AXESS folding support handle slide apart. The result is a uniquely flat, elegant and almost sculptural appearance on the wall.

Modern bathrooms rely on a calm, timeless colour scheme. In addition to classic chrome, matt surfaces such as matt black, aluminium finish or warm metallic tones are becoming increasingly important. Light natural colours, wood surfaces and stone looks create a homely atmosphere and can be perfectly combined with functional equipment elements. KEUCO offers care products in different surfaces that integrate harmoniously into different bathroom concepts.

High-quality surfaces should not only look impressive, but also be durable, hygienic and easy to maintain. Smooth, durable materials make cleaning easy and maintain their high-quality appearance even in daily use. Chrome has been one of the most popular surfaces for many years, while matt finishes such as matt black add modern accents. The velvety matt surface of the aluminium finish is particularly resistant to fingerprints. KEUCO care products combine high-quality materials with a durable surface quality.

A modern bathroom doesn't have to compromise between function and aesthetics. High-quality materials, clear shapes and carefully coordinated products enable a design where security solutions seem almost natural. Grab and support handles, railing systems or shower seats can be integrated to enhance the character of the bathroom. The Care collections from KEUCO combine functional safety with a timeless design language.

To the care products

Bathroom accessories are exposed to humidity, temperature fluctuations and intensive use every day. That’s why they should be made of high-quality, durable and corrosion-resistant materials. Easy-care surfaces and precise workmanship are equally important. KEUCO care products meet these requirements and impress with their solid material quality and long service life.

Modern accessible products are designed to blend harmoniously into different interior styles. Slim shapes, high-quality surfaces and a reduced design ensure that grab bars or railing systems are hardly perceived as aids. Instead, they complement the overall look of the bathroom and add extra comfort. KEUCO develops care products that combine functionality and design at the highest level.

At vero eos et accusam et justo duo dolores et ea rebum. Stet clita kasd gubergren, no sea takimata sanctus est Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

The cost of an accessible bathroom depends on the size of the bathroom, the building conditions and the scope of the desired measures. Even individual retrofits such as grab and support handles, a shower seat or a floor-level shower can significantly increase comfort and safety.

A complete bathroom renovation offers the opportunity to optimally coordinate all elements with each other and plan for the long term. KEUCO care products are suitable for both small modernisations and extensive bathroom conversions and can be harmoniously integrated into a wide range of bathroom concepts.

In Germany, various funding options are available for the accessible conversion of a bathroom, depending on the personal situation. These include, among other things, grants from care funds, state subsidy programmes or regional subsidy programmes.

The funding that comes into question depends on the individual requirements and the planned conversion measures. Early consultation helps to make use of suitable funding opportunities and optimally plan the bathroom conversion.

An accessible bathroom is an investment in the future. It increases living comfort, reduces the risk of trips and accidents and enables independent use of the bathroom even in changing living conditions. This is why many developers and modernisers are already opting for barrier-free or accessible equipment. Products such as grab and support handles or floor-level showers offer comfort for all generations and fit harmoniously into modern bathrooms with the care solutions from KEUCO.

The requirements for an accessible bathroom are regulated in Germany in DIN 18040. Depending on the use, different minimum dimensions apply for movement areas and sanitary facilities. For wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, for example, movement areas of at least 150 × 150 cm are provided. The standard also describes door widths, grip heights and the arrangement of the toilet, washbasin and shower.

Careful planning creates long-term comfort and enables safe use of the bathroom. With the flexible care solutions from KEUCO, a wide range of room situations can be implemented with high-quality functionality and design.

Only grab bars designed for use in wet rooms should be used in the bathroom. They must withstand high loads, be permanently resistant to corrosion and offer a secure hold. Depending on the area of insert, straight grab bars, angled grab bars or drop down supporting rails are used. All KEUCO grab and support handles are permanently screwed to the wall. Professional assembly ensures high stability and safe use in the bathroom.

For a bathroom, grab bars are suitable that offer a secure grip, are ergonomically shaped and fit the respective use situation. The right choice depends on whether the handle is needed for standing, transferring, showering or as extra support in everyday life.

Suitable variants are:

Horizontal grab bars:

They offer a stable grip when standing and help, for example, to move around safely in the shower. They are particularly suitable when even support along a wall is required.

Vertical grab bars:

Above all, they provide support when getting in and out of the shower or when standing up. Their vertical gripping direction allows them to be gripped over a larger height range.

Angled grab bar and L-shaped grab bars:

They combine horizontal and vertical gripping areas and thus support different movement sequences - for example when getting in and out of the shower.

Drop down supporting rails on the toilet:

They provide support when sitting down and standing up and can be folded up if necessary. This solution is particularly useful when mobility is restricted.

Railing systems with holding function:

They combine safety with comfort and can offer additional stowage or equipment options. This allows them to be harmoniously integrated into modern bathroom concepts.

To the grab bars

Grab bars can be inserted wherever additional safety and stability are required. They are particularly useful in the shower, at the bathtub and next to the toilet, making it easier to get up, sit down and move around safely in the bathroom and helping to reduce the risk of falls. The KEUCO Care series offers suitable solutions for all areas of application that combine functionality and modern design.

To the grab bars

The bathroom is one of the rooms with the highest risk of accidents in the household. Non-slip floor coverings, a shower on the same level as the floor, sufficient space for movement and well-placed grab and support handles significantly increase safety. Easy-to-reach storage surfaces and ergonomically arranged fittings also contribute to comfortable use. KEUCO care products can be used to create bathrooms that optimally combine safety and design.

A generational bathroom is designed to be comfortable for people of all ages and with different needs. It combines modern design with functional solutions and can be flexibly adapted to changing life situations. Floor-level showers, grab and support handles and generous movement areas create comfort and safety for the whole family. KEUCO care products support cross-generational bathroom planning with high-quality and durable solutions.

Accessibility in the bathroom is no longer just an issue for older people or people with physical disabilities. It stands for future-oriented bathroom planning that combines comfort, safety and design. More and more people want to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible, which is why they are already considering accessible solutions when building new buildings or modernising.

Demographic change means that the need for comfortable and safe bathrooms is constantly growing. At the same time, families with children, people after an injury or surgery and those who value more freedom of movement and comfort in everyday life also benefit. A floor-level shower area, ergonomically placed grab bars or easy-to-reach storage surfaces make daily use easier. And that regardless of age.

Predictive planning not only creates a better quality of life, but also increases the future viability and value of a property. Modern care products blend harmoniously into sophisticated bathroom concepts and show that safety and timeless design are no contradiction. KEUCO’s high-quality solutions create bathrooms that meet today’s requirements and also meet future requirements.

The most important reasons are:

Demographic change and increasing need for age-appropriate housing
Living independently and safely at home for as long as possible
More comfort and freedom of movement for all generations
Anticipatory planning for future life situations
Combination of design, functionality and safety
Value retention and future viability of properties
Investment through durable, high-quality solutions

Grab and support handles and other products for accessible bathrooms perform an important safety function. That’s why material quality, workmanship and professional assembly play a decisive role. High-quality products impress with their durability, reliable function and timeless design. KEUCO develops durable solutions that meet the highest quality requirements and integrate harmoniously into modern bathroom architectures.
